The 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono
Hypermotard 698
The 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono marks a notable addition to Ducati's lineup as it is the first model in nearly three decades to feature a single-cylinder engine. This new model, known as the Superquadro Mono, is a 659cc single that boasts an impressive maximum power of 77.5 hp at 9,750 rpm and a peak torque of 46.5 lb-ft at 8,000 rpm. This engine is essentially half of the Superquadro V-Twin found in the 1299 Panigale, maintaining the 116mm bore but with a longer stroke. Additionally, the engine inherits several high-performance features from its V-Twin counterpart, including the combustion chamber design, titanium intake and steel exhaust valves, and Ducati’s Desmodromic valve timing. An optional Termignoni exhaust can further enhance the power output to 84.5 hp
In terms of design, the Hypermotard 698 Mono sports a racing aesthetic with sharp lines and a slim profile. It features a tall, flat seat covered in grip fabric, a high front mudguard, and a sharp tail section. The bike's lighting is handled by a compact LED headlight, and it boasts double silencers mounted high on the sides of the tail. The RVE version comes with a "Graffiti" livery that includes black and red graphics and a bi-directional quickshifter as standard equipment. The steel trellis frame of the bike is designed to minimize weight, contributing to an overall lightweight design, with the bike weighing in at just 333 lb without fuel. The braking system is supplied by Brembo, and the bike rides on 17-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tires.
Electronically, the Hypermotard 698 Mono is well-equipped with several rider aids, including cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, engine brake control, and a power launch system. The bike offers four ride modes: Sport, Road, Urban, and Wet, each adjusting various settings like traction control, engine brake control, and ABS levels. The ABS system itself offers four levels, including a Slide-by-Brake functionality for controlled sliding into corners. The bike also features a high-contrast 3.8-inch LCD display for easy monitoring of vital information. These advanced electronics and the bike's overall design aim to provide optimum control, whether the rider prefers a leg outstretched or a knee on the ground during aggressive riding.
